We will begin reviewing individual applications in the General category as soon as all documents have been received. For those who qualify for “early admission,” offers can be made as early as November. These offers, made before the application deadline, are generally submitted to applicants with a GPA greater than 84% and an LSAT score greater than 166. During the spring and summer, when others withdraw or are no longer able to participate, offers will be made to candidates who are on our waiting list.

Separate transcripts must be sent by each institution visited. An official transcript is sent directly to the faculty by the issuing institution. For applications that are not submitted in the “General” category, two letters of recommendation are required. No specific form or format is required, but for the discretionary and Indigenous categories, we prefer a professional reference and an academic reference. In situations where neither a professional nor an academic reference can be obtained, it is acceptable to submit two references of the same type. For the higher year categories (transfer, letter of permission), both letters of recommendation must be from law professors at your current institution.
Letters of recommendation must be sent directly to our office by your umpire, and they must sign the back of the envelope. References can also send letters of recommendation directly to admissions@allard.ubc.ca via email. Please ensure that your full name is used in your letters of reference so that we can match them to your file. To check the status of your application and provide new or updated information, please log in to My Applications. The LSAT letter in January is the last session we will accept for the current admission cycle, but we strongly encourage applicants to take the LSAT before the January test date. Decisions are made on an ongoing basis from the end of November and last until the summer months. A candidate who wants to rely on the January LSAT score may reduce their chances of admission due to the late review of their file and the possibility that there will be no more positions available in the next entry class. Applications from applicants who take the LSAT by January will not be considered complete until all elements, including the LSAT score, have been received. If, after review, complete application documents for a place in the next entry grade are considered competitive, the candidate may be admitted or placed on a waiting list, depending on whether a position is still available or not. Note: Equity factors refer to systemic barriers to equal access to opportunity. These include grounds of discrimination in human rights laws such as race, sex, disability, gender identity, nationality, religion, age and marital status. Diversity factors refer to other personal characteristics and identities.

Students currently enrolled in a civil law program at a Canadian law school are not eligible for a transfer to the Allard School of Law.
However, they can request a letter of permission from the Allard School of Law if approved by their current law school. Visitor status is only granted for a maximum period of one year. Your references can send their letter by post or e-mail to admissions@allard.ubc.ca. If they decide to send the letter, they must sign the back of the envelope and send it to our admissions office: The faculty takes into account the nominee`s commitment to Indigenous communities and organizations and the nominee`s intention to use their legal education to advance Indigenous causes and interests. All applicants must demonstrate that they are eligible to apply in the Aboriginal class by providing a photocopy of their Indian Status Card, Métis or Canadian Government Card, or the respective provincial or territorial government documents proving their self-identification. Non-Status Indians should contact the Associate Director of Aboriginal Legal Studies for more information. In addition, a personal statement is required, two letters of recommendation, an LSAT score and official transcripts are required. Under My Requests, you will also find information about your references and the status of your reference requests. Transcripts can be emailed (preferably) or mailed to our admissions office. You can ask your post-secondary institutions to send your transcripts directly to admissions@allard.ubc.ca. In principle, we only offer deferrals in extenuating circumstances (e.g. for medical or humanitarian reasons).
An applicant wishing to postpone their studies should contact the admissions office and indicate the reasons why they are requesting a postponement. While we are assessing your application, you can log on to the Student Services Centre at any time to be notified of the status of your application, upcoming deadlines, and pending documents and fees. Interviews are not part of the admissions process, but admissions staff are available to answer questions in person, by phone (604.822.6303) or by email.
